It's 2010 and I am in New York City! It is so cold, but this won't stop me getting out and about!
While I am here in New York I hope to visit:

The Museum of Modern Art. There is a Tim Burton exhibition running until April that I hear is fantastic.

The Guggenheim Museum. The Kadinsky, is coming to a close on Jan 13, 2010.

A View from the Bridge. I am super excited to see Scarlet Johansson’s Broadway debut in A View from the Bridge, the new revival of Arthur Miller’s classic tragedy.

I had to go an see the Shamu believe show which was fantastic. (However I could have lived with out the overly emotional sugary soundtrack and the “I had a dream” stories…)

I decided to sit in the Soak Zone to see what would happen….

On my way to Estonia, I spent a few days in Paris with my family. After a fairly average flight with Finnair (do not fly BKK to HEL, they still have the old planes with the big video screens that they keep on ALL night with movies or the flying map), our luggage didn’t arrive with us at CDG. Eventually it came two days later, so I got to buy a few new things thanks to Finnair. Lets hope I see the money when I put in my claim!

Highlights

Dinner at Bofinger in the Bastille. My parents have been dining here since the started their annual trips to France.

Bread from the bakery near Saint Paul Metro.

The fabulous decorations and the Vanilla Layer cake from Restaurant Le Train Bleu.

The RER train from the airport. 35min to Les Halles, you don’t need to worry about the traffic and much cheaper than a taxi. (Buying a ticket, however, was an absolute nightmare at CDG Terminal 2!)

The fabulous weather – sunshine throughout my stay.

Worldmate’s stance was that their users didn’t have iphones so they had no plans for iPhone product development. I guess they must have seen some churn and decided to do something about it.

I am very keen to test both services, Worldmate and TripIt on my upcoming holiday to Europe and compare the two. My biggest concern is offline functionality, as no one wants to pay roaming charges in another country just to check what time their flight leaves! TripIt’s offline capability was buggy when it first came out, but seems to be stable now. There is no mention on the Worldmate site about the offline capability of their app.

Shozu – allows you to upload photos from your iphone to many different webservices, including Flickr!, Facebook and Photobucket.
- After geocoding (a one click procedure with Shozu) and taggging, I uploaded my photos to Flickr!

Flickr!- The best photo sharing website!
- I tagged each photo with “trip” for use in my map.

- I utlised the Google Maps feature and produced my map, below:

Continuing on from Useful Gadgets for travelling, here is my list of useful stuff for travelling. All this stuff should fit easily into a purse or bag so there is no excuse for not being prepared!

Useful Stuff

Ear Plugs

I never travel without ear plugs! They are light, cheap and small. I do recommend the flesh coloured plugs, rather than the fluoro orange or green ones.

by VeryBadLady

Travel snaps for:

Cutting down on annoying aircraft, train or bus noise

If you cut them in half, not only are they more discreet, you can safely sleep leaning your head on the side, without dislodging your inner-ear

Useful for concerts, festivals, nightclubs and crying children

Alternatives:

Toilet paper or tissues.
My mum once did this at a Midnight Oil concert at Selinas in Coogee. Although not as effective as ear plugs, it does help. However it does look ridiculous!

Chewing Gum

My ears always have a terrible time on take-off and landing so chewing gum is invaluable. Combine the gum with a good yawn and your ears will be fine.

by biphop

Travel snaps for:

Saving my ears in planes, elevators and funiculars

Freshening your breath after that especially garlic Italian dinner

Can be used to replace blue-tac if you are desperate!

Alternatives:

Lollies.
Minties or other strong chewy lollies are best

Travel Locks

Anyone travelling through the US needs to have TSA locks if they want to have any kind of security on their checked luggage. They are a bit pricey, around $20, (You can currently find them for $17 at GoGear), but definitely worth the money.

Travel snaps for:

Ability to keep your luggage locked when travelling through the US

Combination lock, so you don’t need to worry about losing keys

Avaliable with an unlock indicator, so you know if your luggage has been opened by security.

Alternatives:

Leave your luggage unlocked!
